My background was originally in retail and I worked in many management roles throughout the years. Redundancy forced me to stop and take stock. Was this really what I wanted to do? I took the opportunity to completely change direction and went to work for a care company where I became a Care Manager. I enjoyed the work, but after two years there seemed nowhere for my career to progress.

I applied to be the Registered Care Manager at Better Healthcare – and what a difference. My team and I have gone from strength to strength, helping more and more people in our community. I’d worked for another care provider for nine years and in that time only had one opportunity to progress. Joining Better Healthcare changed that. They looked at my experience, what I could bring, and put me in a Senior Care Coordinator position. Whereas previously I’d been promoted and then nothing, at Better Healthcare that was just the beginning.

They knew I was keen to specialise and they gave me the training to make that happen. I progressed onto the Specialist Team, was promoted to Trainee Case Manager and have now been Non-Clinical Case Manager for two years. I came to Better Healthcare in 2010 from a mental health nursing background. For four years I was Branch Manager for the Healthcare Team and Registered Manager for Domiciliary Care. I returned in 2018 to assist with setting up a Complex Care Division in our Norwich office.

In 2020 I was promoted to Registered Business Manager overseeing domiciliary care and complex care divisions. What we’ve achieved has been incredible. The office itself has doubled in size and we’ve become the ‘number one go to for live-in care’.  One of the aspects I value most about working at Better Healthcare is the support from the whole team. Not just those in my branch here, but our directors, Operations Manager , clinical team and business managers. Between them they have a wealth of knowledge and breadth of experience. They’re always on hand to give support and guidance and have a genuine interest in helping every staff member to develop their skills and progress through a clear career pathway. As a company they are fantastic at celebrating both branch and individual achievements. It makes you feel valued and recognised for the work that you do.

As you can see, all three have had different routes. But one thing they all share is a determination to build exciting careers. We feel extremely privileged to have them all.
