At Better Healthcare, we are proud of our dedicated carers who go above and beyond to provide top-quality healthcare, live-in care and home care services to those that need them. In this series of interviews, we will be giving you an insight into what it’s like to work as a carer for Better Healthcare.
In this edition, we talk to Debbie Mitcham who works for our Norwich Healthcare Division.
1. What made you decide to be a carer?
I’ve always had a passion for helping people, and I wanted a job where I could make a real difference in people’s lives. I can do just that at Better Healthcare.
2. What kind of things are you responsible for as a carer?
I help the people I support with their daily needs, enabling them to live their lives to the fullest. Helping them to take care of themselves is key, because we believe in maintaining a dignified and independent quality of life.
3. What is it like to work for Better Healthcare?
I’ve really enjoyed it, mainly because they’re so supportive. Thanks to them I’ve learned everything I need for the job, the opportunity to grow professionally and personally.
4. What parts of the job do you enjoy most?
I love seeing the difference I’ve made in the lives of the people I support! Seeing them achieve want they want to achieve is very rewarding.
5. Do you feel like you have a lot of flexibility in your role?
Oh definitely, it’s a very flexible job. The training helps a lot with this, as you can take on jobs you would otherwise be unable to.
6. How do you manage to keep yourself motivated while working in the healthcare division?
It’s not hard when you love the job that you do. If you truly enjoy it, then you naturally feel motivated to give it your all.
7. What advice would you give for others who may want to apply for this role and for those already in the role?
If you’re passionate about your job, and if you want different challenges, then you should apply. If you’re already doing it, then don’t be afraid to try different types of care work and see what clicks.
